Main Page error reports
![]() | National variations of the English language have been extensively discussed previously:
|
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 19:17 on 21 March 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

- "Paleobiota" should be lowercased, as it is usually not a proper noun (cf. the category Category:Cenozoic paleobiotas and other similar ones). Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 15:08, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

: parentheses should be in italics as well. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 15:26, 21 March 2025 (UTC)Fixed It would be good if you could check for those formatting issues, Launchballer, including spaced question marks after italics, when you promote to queue. Schwede66 16:00, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't queue that set, @SL93: did (I only did some last-minute redirect bypassing), but sure.--Launchballer 16:31, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry for not looking properly (I’m editing via mobile at the moment, which makes things more clumsy). Schwede66 16:54, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Schwede66 I'm actually going to take your comment with little more than a grain of salt because this is my first time making such a mistake, and because I clearly am not the only person who made the mistake. I would only apologize if it was more than a formatting error, such as something that made the hook completely ineligible. SL93 (talk) 18:02, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Pinging AirshipJungleman29 who introduced the error upon promotion. Not to blame them because I honestly don't care, but to make things clear. SL93 (talk)

- The caption "
Ginkgo adiantoides with fall color
" appears to fail MOS:SEASON - SchroCat (talk) 15:30, 21 March 2025 (UTC)- How so? It's referring to the season as a season, rather than as a shorthand for "August through October" or similar. jlwoodwa (talk) 15:57, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can’t spot the issue either. Schwede66 16:01, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Because "fall" is an Americanism not necessarily understood by most of the world; many will not equate it to mean "autumn", as that's the name many will know it by. Just to reiterate, "Avoid using seasons to refer to a particular time of year, as they are often unduly ambiguous" is there for a reason. (And grammatically, "Ginkgo adiantoides with fall color" is a poor piece of writing that isn't immediately clear for all). - SchroCat (talk) 16:31, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Would you prefer a wikilinked version like "Ginkgo adiantoides with autumn leaf colors"? 216.58.25.209 (talk) 16:41, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- "Autumn" is as much a SEASONS fail as "fall", for the same reason. - SchroCat (talk) 16:59, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I'm fine with autumn being a more widely understood word than fall, but when describing the color changes a leaf undergoes at the end of the growing season, autumn is exactly the right word. That's not what WP:SEASON is saying. RoySmith-Mobile (talk) 17:38, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I’ve implemented the IP's suggestion and suggest that the wikilink overcomes the MOS issue. Schwede66 17:01, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- "Autumn" is as much a SEASONS fail as "fall", for the same reason. - SchroCat (talk) 16:59, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I still don't see how it's "unduly ambiguous" here. jlwoodwa (talk) 17:23, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

- "...that brothers Carl, Martin, and Dick Zoll all played exactly one NFL game for the Green Bay Packers?" should read "each played" to clarify that they did not play together in the same game. — AjaxSmack 16:26, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I think that the hook would say "together" if they played the same game together. SL93 (talk) 18:04, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think the hook for Sacred Heart Church is accurate: Pontifical College Josephinum is one of two pontifical universities in the United States, together with Catholic University of America; PCJ is the only pontifical seminary in the US, which would probably be the simplest way to fix this. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 18:46, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- Also if you look at the reference given (https://ohiomemory.ohiohistory.org/archives/4122] it says the only pontifical university in the western hemisphere, which is clearly not the case. I think we should pull this. Secretlondon (talk) 19:17, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
